Workshop making silver buttons.
Workshop making silver buttons.
This workshop consists of two half days.
The silver button making workshop is an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with a commonly used technique in goldsmithing and to combine it with the beautiful fashion craft.
What are we going to do?
On day 1 we will design buttons in modeling wax. This special wax has been used for centuries by goldsmiths to design jewelry and parts that can be cast in series.
By removing material from the wax you create a design. From the material that remains, an impression is eventually made and silver is poured into it.
Using scalpel blades, files, needles and drills you create a small sculpture.
We will first experiment a bit and then make several models.
You ultimately choose one of the models to finish further and have multiple copies cast in silver.
How this works is very fascinating and I will be happy to explain it to you during the workshop.
On day 2, under the guidance of Irene Schaepman from Evaluna Couture, you will put the buttons on your favorite piece of clothing.
Good to know.
Do you have a favorite piece of clothing that you would like to sew the buttons on? Bring it with you on the first day.
If you don't have a piece of clothing, we'll practice sewing on the buttons on a scrap of fabric so you can do it at home later.
It is possible to make multiple designs and have them made in silver. There are additional costs involved. We can discuss this during the workshop.
Duration: day 1 from 10:30 to 17:00 for making the wax model. Food and drinks are available in between. Please note: Please bring your own lunch . (Supermarket within walking distance)
Day 2 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM for sewing the buttons, guided by Irene from Evaluna Couture.
In between these days the wax model is processed in the foundry and I ensure the correct finishing of the silver.
